hI-Cran® frequently asked questions
Although several clinical studies have found cranberry juice to be beneficial in preventing UTIs, the amount which must be consumed to be effective is considerable which may be inconvenient, expensive and increases your daily calories. Drinking excessive amounts of juice may cause gastrointestinal upset or diarrhoea.
hI-Cran® is more potent than cranberry juice alone, as it also contains hibiscus. Both cranberry and hibiscus contain the proanthocyanidins (PACs) which prevent bacteria adhering to the bladder wall. hI-Cran® is a unique and natural composition that does not contain any preservatives, sugars, gluten or flavourings.

If you're a woman and in good health, you may not need to see your GP, as cystitis often clears up by itself with home treatments. However you should contact your GP if:
- Your symptoms don't improve after two to three days
- You have blood in your urine
- You're pregnant or may be pregnant
- You're over 65
- You have a high temperature, feel sick or are vomiting
- You have pain in your lower back or severe abdominal pain
- The cystitis keeps coming back
- You have other problems with your urinary system such as kidney stones or difficulty emptying your bladder
- You have diabetes
Children and men should always see their GP if they have cystitis.
The symptoms of cystitis usually clear up without treatment within 4-9 days. Although anyone can get cystitis and UTIs, adult women are most commonly affected. Most women get at least one attack in their lifetime.
For some women cystitis is a rare event, for others it happens four or five times a year. Cystitis is more common in sexually active women, during pregnancy and after the menopause.
The bacteria that cause symptoms of cystitis can also produce the same effects over a longer period if left untreated. This is known as chronic cystitis. This can happen when the initial course of antibiotic treatment is not completed, allowing some of the bacteria to remain, or when some germs have a resistance to treatment. If cystitis and other UTIs are left untreated, this can cause potential problems with your bladder or kidneys.
No. However vigorous sexual activity can cause irritation resulting in cystitis.
Yes. Your body views the natural hibiscus and cranberry within hI-Cran® as food and does not interact with antibiotics or other drugs. Studies have been performed which show that hibiscus and cranberry do not negatively affect the way in which the antibiotics work or produce any side effects.
No, there is no evidence to suggest that this will happen
